Sheila Wright

Licensed Associate Counselor

Enjoying well-being, in an increasingly complex and demanding world, is a challenge for all of us. I value my clients, and I consider it a privilege to work with them as we partner to identify areas of desired growth. My training in positive psychology, clinical mental health counseling, individuals, couples, and family counseling and therapy, as well as substance dependency, supports my work with clients through a strengths-based approach that is person-centered and life-affirming. I love coming to know my clients as individuals and helping them to create positive strategies to achieve their personal goals and to identify their core values and beliefs. At A New Way Counseling and Psychotherapy, we believe that through collaboration clients can find “new ways” of thinking, feeling, and engaging with others. I am passionate about my role as a counselor and helping my clients explore the many possibilities that lead to flourishing and self-empowerment. My philosophic approach is also informed by a holistic (whole person), integrative concept of treatment, centered in a humanistic/existentialist/multicultural view of one’s personal life story, and I draw on therapeutic techniques from a variety of counseling modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). No matter our background, I believe that we can re-construct our personal narratives to create greater happiness and well-being. Nurturing trust, rapport, and respect for clients is at the heart of my work, and I am honored to accompany my clients on their personal journeys of self-discovery and healing.

We all cope with things in our lives,

some more and others less.

The decision to seek counseling proves your strength and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It is not a sign of weakness to take your problems to a professional; it's actually quite the opposite. Going in for counseling or psychotherapy shows you are actively getting involved in your own recovery.

We have the modalities to

Meet Your Needs

Everybody faces challenges and sometimes these challenges seem overwhelming. Your mental health shouldn’t be a problem that you just have to put up with. And it doesn’t have to be a problem that you have to solve alone either.

Therapy is here to support you on your journey to recovery. Sometimes it takes time to understand the reasons why you feel the way you do and what you need to do to solve them. We will help you get there. We will listen to your story, identify your problems and goals, and help establish A New Way to manage through.

Individual

Sessions

In an individual therapy session, a client works one-on-one with a trained therapist. It provides an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings openly, honestly, and with confidentiality.

Individual therapy can be helpful to people facing a variety of challenges, including depression and anxiety management, coping with trauma, family conflict, grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting dilemmas, self-esteem concerns, and overall life satisfaction.

Your professional therapist will help you discover new ways of coping with life and its challenges.

Couple

Sessions

Couples therapy is a special kind of psychotherapy that focuses on maintaining healthy relationships between two people who may be dating, partnered, engaged, or married.

Your therapist will help you and your partner solve problems and develop the skills you need to address issues that are holding you back from living the life you want.

Sessions are valuable tools for improving communication, identifying issues and areas of struggle that threaten the health of your relationship, and defining new ways to resolve conflicts.

Family

Sessions

Family therapy is a special form of group psychotherapy that creates a safe space in which family members are able to explore conflict and express positive feelings. This way, family members are able to better understand each other and work out their differences.

The family therapist aims to develop a shared vision so that the entire family works together toward common goals.

The therapist will help promote the positive growth and development of children, and young people, and new ways to strengthen the family as a whole.

The first step toward therapy can be just the decision to go – not yet knowing what it might lead you to find.
