Time for A New Way

Dr. Siobhan Berger

Clinical Psychologist

Finding the right Psychologist can be trying. Therefore one of the first things I tell my clients is "I am real". I believe that openness and connection within the therapeutic relationship allow for the establishment of a comfortable environment in which you can begin to create "a new way" to cope. I am passionate about helping my clients to find new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving to establish a healthy and functional approach to life. I have experience working with individuals across the life span with a variety of diagnoses and life challenges, often treating diverse emotional issues such as anxiety and depressive disorders, mood disorders, anger management, trauma, difficulties with self-esteem, interpersonal conflicts, parenting skills, eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Theoretical Orientations used by Dr. Berger are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Behavior Therapy.

We all cope with things in our lives,

some more and others less.

The decision to seek counseling proves your strength and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It is not a sign of weakness to take your problems to a professional; it's actually quite the opposite. Going in for counseling or psychotherapy shows you are actively getting involved in your own recovery.

What We Can Do For You

We often struggle with emotions that prevent us from remembering the truth of who we are, why we’re here, and where we want to go.

Are you feeling stuck? Do you feel like your life is just not where you want it to be? If you have been feeling down, overwhelmed, stressed, or hopeless, perhaps it is time to talk about it. You’re not alone. A New Way is here to help.

Counseling and psychotherapy can help you recover your balance and self-confidence by improving your ability to understand & influence your thoughts and emotions. Open communication with a skilled clinician can help you develop A New Way to manage life’s challenges.

What Our First Session

Will Look Like

We are all about helping you feel better about yourself and achieve your goals.

Dr. Berger will not sit down and take notes. She will listen deeply to your concerns and provide a safe place where you can explore your feelings uninhibited. She will not direct your emotions or change the way you feel. She will accept them.

During the first session, you can talk about the things that disturb you and listen to your own words. Dr. Berger's undivided attention, empathy, and positive regard make the conversations real, without judgment, criticism, or evaluation.

What's Next

It’s important to give yourself a little time to think about the experience and how you felt.

Your therapy is about YOU. At the end of your initial meeting, you will be invited to share your thoughts and feelings about the connection made. You will have the opportunity to decide if you would like to schedule your next appointment or take a pause. No decision is concrete, and you will have the opportunity to make the decision best for you after each meeting. While we are already looking forward to being a part of your journey in finding A New Way, you will always have the authority to choose your next steps.

We have the modalities to

Meet Your Needs

Everybody faces challenges and sometimes these challenges seem overwhelming. Your mental health shouldn’t be a problem that you just have to put up with. And it doesn’t have to be a problem that you have to solve alone either.

Therapy is here to support you on your journey to recovery. Sometimes it takes time to understand the reasons why you feel the way you do and what you need to do to solve them. We will help you get there. We will listen to your story, identify your problems and goals, and help establish A New Way to manage through.

Individual

Sessions

In an individual therapy session, a client works one-on-one with a trained therapist. It provides an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings openly, honestly, and with confidentiality.

Individual therapy can be helpful to people facing a variety of challenges, including depression and anxiety management, coping with trauma, family conflict, grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting dilemmas, self-esteem concerns, and overall life satisfaction.

Your professional therapist will help you discover new ways of coping with life and its challenges.

Couple

Sessions

Couples therapy is a special kind of psychotherapy that focuses on maintaining healthy relationships between two people who may be dating, partnered, engaged, or married.

Your therapist will help you and your partner solve problems and develop the skills you need to address issues that are holding you back from living the life you want.

Sessions are valuable tools for improving communication, identifying issues and areas of struggle that threaten the health of your relationship, and defining new ways to resolve conflicts.

Family

Sessions

Family therapy is a special form of group psychotherapy that creates a safe space in which family members are able to explore conflict and express positive feelings. This way, family members are able to better understand each other and work out their differences.

The family therapist aims to develop a shared vision so that the entire family works together toward common goals.

The therapist will help promote the positive growth and development of children, and young people, and new ways to strengthen the family as a whole.

The first step toward therapy can be just the decision to go – not yet knowing what it might lead you to find.

Let’s book your first appointment.
